True Love

Just a little vision, just a little night walk
in the moonlight by your side
Come a little closer, in the distance
there's a sadness in the tide
Walking up along the lake,
careful of the steps we take
Lovers' passing by
They're so quiet you can hear them sigh
I'm hearing....
True love, true love, true love
Forever mine be my..
True love, true love, true love
Forever mine.
On the boardwalk under neon
and that crazy August sky
There's a chance of thunder,
there's a chance that I might
Fall into your eyes.
Something breezes through my hair,
or did you whisper something in my ear
Sounds like I love you
Tell me, tell me true
I'm hearing.....
True love, true love, true love
Forever mine be my..
True love, true love, true love
Forever mine.
Baby be my love, be my love.
Don't you wonder why does
summer hold such magic in the dark
Strangers turn to lovers and
gravity will not deny your heart
On the midway at the fair,
you will see us every where
Like ducks all in a row
Love lines us up, love lets us go
We shoot at....
True love, true love, true love
Forever mine be my..love.

Ghost Town Girl

She's walking up and down the street
Been around a time or two
There's no one that she'd like to meet
She enjoys the quiet.
She's a ghost town girl,
living in a ghost town that girl.
Leaning on the bakery wall
Tattered awnings frayed
Colors that are almost gone
Life can sometimes fade that way
Ghost town girl,
you're living in a ghost town, hey girl
Living half dead in a half dead town
Makes sense to her
When you're half mad it's a half mad world
So you might as well live here....in a ghost town.
Folks wonder why she just don't leave
Why don't she get up and go
The way she walks the streets at night
Kinda' spooky don't ya know
She's a ghost......town girl,
living in a ghost town, that girl
There's no one left to make her happy here
That handsome one, he's gone
It's not as though she walks the street in fear
There's no one left to do her wrong.…
in a ghost town.
Living half dead in a half dead town
Makes sense to her
When you're half mad, it's a half mad world
So you might as well settle down
in a ghost town.

Out on the front porch she's taken to drinking
Shes' got a tall cool lemonade
Stoop is crumbling from the heat of summer
She tries to remember rain.
She loves sitting and watching the children
In summertime she says "Everydays a Saturday"
Love's commotion with the people passing
She's sitting pretty in the shade
Underneath the sun her days they move along
They move along
Every now and then a neighbor lingers near
They love to hear laughing Mama Ghetto Rose.
Sittin' there wide eyed, oh we got her going
Stories of high brow Harlem and her dancers' legs
Strapless satin, singing with the white boys
She says "The good times where on parade"
Underneath the lights her nights they'd move along
They'd move along
Every now and then the men would linger near
They loved to hear singing Mama Ghetto Rose.
Then she'll close her eyes, and rest inside the glory
Of her life, oh, her life,
What a life, tell a little more....a little more!
Talk about sorrow, talk about struggle she'd say
"Girl, just go row your boat, watch for the weather,
don't you ever put anchor, let your power keep your life afloat...
There inside the wind your days will move along
They move along
Every now and then a friend will linger near
Trust your dear ol' Mama Ghetto Rose"
Out on the front porch, she's taken to drinking
She's got a tall cool lemonade
Kids are laughing, sneaking up behind her,
They cop a sip of her lemonade.

Don't Look Back

Out across the ocean she'll be sailing
Out under the open sky she'll wave
The clouds surround her now and she is lost to you
From far away
But here inside a dream she comes a'walkin'
Smiling in her old familiar way
Her eyes look somehow different they implore you
As if to say -
Don't look back
Don't look back
Don't look back
Don't look back.
You made a promise that you'd always love her
She made a promise that she'd always stay
But promises are broken in a heartbeat and then
They fade away
How much time is time enough for sorrow
How long can you linger in the rain
When the fog is lifting and her memory lets you
Love again...
Don't look back
Don't look back
Don't look back
Don't look back.
I will go on living with this yearning
I will go on wanting till you don't want her
I will go on dreaming that we're lovers until I know
For sure..that you -
Don't look back
Don't look back
Don't look back
Don't look back.

She Won't Be Walking
© 1993 Sally

GREEN FINGERS MUSIC, BMI
There inside a tiny, sleepy little town
young couple settle down
He called her his precious jewel
and she loved him too
Until his sweetness would turn bitter cruel
She'd remember what her mama
told her long ago
"Men are wild and so,
you've got one with an angry heart..
don't go and get him mad,
just be grateful for the life you have"
But this was not supposed to be
here all alone, she'd plan and dream
CHORUS:
She won't be walking, when she goes
Won't be talking there'll be nothing
they don't already know
There are no magic words left to say,
She'll be leaving him, flying away, flying away.
At times he'd be a tender gentle caring man
then down would come his hand
He had an overwhelming need
to bring her to her knees
Then he'd apologize, he'd beg, he'd plead
Through the years those babies
came slowly one by one
A daughter and a son.
He couldn't stand to hear them cry
He'd stay out all night,
as long as he was gone they'd be alright
But this was not supposed to be
lone in her bed, she'd safely dream
CHORUS
Trapped inside a lie, a prisoner in danger
no one to hear her cry, nobody but herself to save her.
All of a sudden he was at the doorway stumbling in
he caught her on the chin
"Get those kids on out of here"
a bullet hits the air
With in an instant she will disappear.
Cause there's a special place in your mind
you leave your body far behind.
She won't be walking, when she goes...…
CHORUS

Save Me a Seat

She's standing in a hard rain waiting for the bus,
HOMEWARD BOUND
There with her umbrella she's had enough,
HOMEWARD BOUND
She's ready for the journey in her heart of hearts
HOMEWARD BOUND
Once those doors swing open they let the healing start
HOMEWARD BOUND
Get you a place by the window,
grab the isle for me
Someday when it's my turn,
look around you and there I'll be, you better
Save me a seat, oh, save me a seat.
You don't need to transfer on the freedom bus,
because it's one way bound.
You don't need a token if in god you trust,
HOMEWARD BOUND
Lay down your weary burden travel as you please
HOMEWARD BOUND
The tired and the weary find comfort in release
HOMEWARD BOUND
Get you a place by the window,
grab the isle for me
Someday when it's my turn,
look around you and there I'll be, you better
Save me a seat, oh, save me a seat.
They don't laugh at white girls who love their R & B
HOMEWARD BOUND
You'll be dancing by the river let your soul run free
HOMEWARD BOUND
Oh, she's ready to get ready, she's got everything in a line
HOMEWARD BOUND
You gave the gift of courage go on girl it's time
HOMEWARD BOUND
Get you a place by the window,
grab the isle for me
Someday when it's my turn,
look around you and there I'll be, you better
Save me a seat, oh, save me a seat.
She's standing in a hard rain, waiting for the bus,
HOMEWARD BOUND
Closing her umbrella, she hands it back to us
HOMEWARD BOUND
Wave goodbye at your window,
put up your big old feet.
Someday when it's my turn,
look around you and there I'll be you better
Save me a seat, oh, save me a seat.

Ho Chin

My name is Ho Chin and I come from China
Now I live in San Francisco Bay
It's 1849 and I'm a young man
Seems that I have traveled far away
I cook potatoes for the gold rush minors
So many men they're panning all the time
They came out west, I came out east, don't matter
Their dreams are just as crazy as mine.
Dreamin' of a good life
Dreamin' of a rich life
Dreamin' of a fine life
Dreamin' of a good life.
On Sundays I make sweet rolls for the minors
They say some kind of grace, they've combed their hair.
But back to work, no rest for greedy minors
When you can taste the gold dust in the air
You can taste the good life
You can taste the rich life
You can taste the fine life
You can taste the good life
Now there's a special room,
where the diggers weigh their gold
So carefully it's measured,
so carefully it's sold
These men are large and burly, rude, rough and clumsy
Distrustful of each other always pushing in a hurry
To go and find a woman, hook up on good liquor
The air is full of remnants of their toil.
Twice a week I go and clean the pay room
I take a feather down upon my knees
And there, between the floor boards I find gold dust
And tiny little nuggets just for me.........Just for me.
My name is Ho Chin and I come from China
But I don't live in China anymore
For eight years in the California Gold Rush
I cooked potatoes and I swept the floor.
Sweeping up a good life
Sweeping up a rich life
Sweeping up a fine life
Sweeping up a good life.

The Lullaby Thief

In the darkness, while you're sleeping
There's a thief standing near.
In that moment, of the peaceful
When you're not even there
He will catch you with a whisper
Lonely ladies they know
He is watching, he is waiting
He won't let you go.
He will haunt you till the morning
Through the morning too.
You don't know him
But you've touched him
Somehow he's touched you.
You drink your coffee, you let him fade
Or maybe take him through your day
Was he someone that you knew, oh, no.
He was no one to you.
Just a feeling, a spirit moving, he was moving through.
In the evening you lay hoping
You won't dream alone
Come back stranger, oh, strange intruder
Your faceless partner he's gone
You drank your coffee, you let him fade
Oh in your waking he slipped away
Was he someone that you knew, oh no.
He was no one to you
Just a feeling, a spirit moving, he was moving through....you.

When I Wake Up From This Night
© 1993 Sally

GREEN FINGERS MUSIC, BMI
Every night at eight o'clock, we lay our heads for pillow
talk
Hey mom, tell me true, let me ask these things of you.
When I wake up from this night, will there be a morning
Will the sun be shining bright, what will I find dawning
When I wake up from this night, will there be a forest
Will the selfish greedy ones, take the big trees from us.
When I wake, will the rain stop coming
When I wake, will the sun stop shining
When I wake, will the gardens growing,
Stop from loving me. Tell me please.
When I wake up from this night, will I be awaken
By sirens from a nuclear sight, accidents can happen
When I wake up from this night, will there be tomorrow
Will the earth have had enough, enough of all this sorrow.
When I wake, will there be oceans
When I wake, will I still be frightened
When I wake, will there be horizons
That I cannot see. Tell me please
When I wake up from this night, oh tell me
Who on earth is gonna make it right,
When I wake up from this night.
Here I lay right beside my daughter
In my soul I've journeyed to protect her
More than that it's my job to teach her
How to love this land. I take her hand I say...
When you wake up from this night, yes there'll be a morning
The sun's gonna be shining bright with new ideas dawning.
And when you wake up from this night, we'll start a new beginning
Show the earth her due respect create new laws for living.
When you wake, we're gonna work together
When you wake, we're gonna start all over
When you wake, we'll take back forever
We will rise up strong. We don't have long.
When you wake up from this night, oh darlin'
You and I are gonna make it right
When we wake up from this night
You and I are gonna make it right
When we wake up from this night.

Papa's at the front wheel, he loves to spit his chew
Mama's starting drinkin' she loves her Mountain dew
Boo boo's in the backseat wondering
"do dreamsicles come true?"
Me I'm looking out the window.
Up until this morning the secret was all mine
The curse of turning thirteen is like a posted sign
Mama said "you're part of natures seasons"
she's so happy that she cried.
I thought that I'd fly out the window.
Windows, windows, a piece of glass, transparency
All of a sudden I'm looking there
She warned me of my womanhood, I think my mirror lies
They say to tell a woman, you can see it in her eyes
Me I don't see nothing, just scenery disguised as me
Looking out a window.
Windows, windows, dirty glass in front of me
And all of a sudden, I'm looking there
I see someone starring right there back at me
She's someone that I used to know,
where did mama's pretty girl go.
Aunt Amy can't have children,
it happened way back when
Stories of the backroom where the dirty staircase ends
At times she's like a willow,
I find her weeping in the wind
I wave goodbye behind my window.
Windows, windows, broken glass for some I fear
All of a sudden I'm looking there
I see someone starring right there back at me
She's someone that I'll someday know,
I'll someday know her, I'll someday know her
Someone that I'll someday know,
It's up to me which way I'll go.

The Fight Song
© 1993 Sally

GREEN FINGERS MUSIC, BMI
There's been some worry
Some lack of grace
Slow and unsteady
This breakable state
There's been some anger
Some disrespect
Aimlessly fired out
No warning no rest.
All through the night
And sometimes until dawn
We'll distance our spirits
We try to move on.
Do you remember
Sometimes we forget
We endlessly torment
Through foolish neglect
Don't let this happen, baby
Don't you let it in
We'll turn out the demon
We struggle within
And when the dust settles
From all that's been thrown
We're privately grateful,
Now, we can go home.
